Letter from the USG of Crisis
Delegates!
Crisis notes should be kept to a maximum of one page, as our staff will stop reading beyond that limit.
Joint Private Directives (JPDs) are also permitted in both committees! These are collaborative crisis notes—typically written by two or three delegates—used to coordinate secret actions or execute plans behind the scenes. In other words, this is your chance to form secret alliances! We highly recommend you bring some sticky notes to communicate with other delegates during the committee sessions, as it may help you form alliances.
The backroom staffers will receive your crisis notes and internalize them. This means that if your notes are written specific enough and are strategically planned, your plans may pop up in a crisis update! However, your plans could also get leaked, you may be framed by others in committee, or your character may even be assassinated...that's the adrenaline of crisis! The crisis staff will come in at about 25 minute intervals, but this time frame is subject to change depending on the pace of your note writing and crisis arcs!
Front-Room:
Your front room will, for the most part, operate similarly to a general assembly or specialized front room. However, delegates may experience timed crises, where the staff will present committee with a pressing issue and delegates must form blocs in unmod, write a directive, and pass it—all in around 15 minutes!
A major aspect of crisis committees are trials. For example, if the committee collectively suspects a certain delegate of committing a crime (ahem...Knives Out!) then they may proceed to trial by a majority vote. During trial, defendants and prosecutors may question the suspect and the committee may proceed to voting and decide the fate of the potential criminal, such as jail time (in which case the delegate in jail will likely receive a new character or a successor of their previous character). The logistics of deciding speaking time per delegate during trial is up to the chairs and delegates of the committee.
Remember that your front-room and back-room performances are weighted equally for awards. This means you must utilize your time for both, think on your feet, and work quickly. The intensity and fast pace of crisis can be challenging but an extremely rewarding experience.
Technology Policy:
This is strictly a no-tech committee. No phones, laptops, iPads, or any other smart devices may be out at any point in the committee. The use of such devices will result in immediate disqualification for awards as it is a violation of conference policy. All directives and crisis notes must be written on the notepad that we provide! Any other notepad/paper will not be accepted.
AI Policy:
The use of AI is strictly forbidden during all conference sessions, as well as breaks. As stated previously, technology is not allowed so all research, speeches, and notes must be either printed out or handwritten. If AI is suspected or detected in any conference materials, the delegate responsible will be disqualified from awards and the head delegate and advisor of their respective delegation will be contacted. We prioritize ensuring a fair experience for all delegates during this conference.
Important Reminders:
Please refrain from writing about any content that is not school appropriate or relevant to committee. This means crisis notes/directives should not include topics such as genocide (unless being addressed as an issue in nonfictional committees), sexual harassment, or any other sensitive topics. While we heavily encourage our delegates to expand their creativity and write detailed notes to create chaos in committee, we will take serious disciplinary action towards any delegate engaging in derogatory language, bullying, etc. If repeated behavior is noticed, the student's head delegate and advisor will be contacted. These measures are taken for the sole purpose of providing a joyful experience for everyone. If you are unsure about whether a topic is appropriate to write about, please speak to me, your chairs, or a crisis staffer first!
Our teams have worked restlessly to make this experience possible and we hope TVMUN '25 is an conference you will never forget! My very first MUN competition was freshman year at BearMUN (UC Berkeley) 2022, where I received an Honorable Mention. From that moment, I knew I was a crisis delegate at heart. If there is one last thing I could do before graduating and closing my chapter of high-school MUN, it is to share my genuine passion and love for crisis with the new wave of upcoming global thinkers and creatives. I hope you all have as much fun, mystery, chaos, and laughter as I did the past 4 years. I have made some of my closest friends through MUN, and became closer to the ones I already had, and it has now left me with lifelong memories.
Best Regards,

My name is Janisha Potipireddi, and I’m honored to serve as the USG of Crisis for TVMUN 2025. I’m thrilled to help bring to life two exciting committees this year—the Knives Out Murder Mystery and the Fall of the Berlin Wall. Each crisis has been carefully crafted to provide delegates with an immersive, challenging, and unforgettable experience. We can’t wait for you to dive in! Please read the information below thoroughly prior to committee.
Backroom Operation:
Both crisis committees will operate using a two-notepad system provided by the conference USGs. Each delegate should write their character name on both notepads and label them “#1” and “#2.” During each notes cycle, delegates will write their crisis notes on one notepad; when the crisis staff collects it, they’ll switch to the other.
